Coming Up Next …

Books I’m planning on reading, and recommendations from authors.

I got a delightful recommendation from author, Kathleen Kent who tweeted about just having read Lou Berney’s latest, NOVEMBER ROAD. Saying it was one of the best books she’d read all year. This coming from an author who’s work I’ve read and reviewed, THE DIME. I went online and ordered her recommendation, along with another by Lou, THE LONG AND FARAWAY GONE, and, of course, THIRTEEN by Steve Cavanagh, and hoping they’ll arrive before the holidays.

I’m also on tenterhooks to read Kent’s follow up to THE DIME, next spring, along with Jane Harper’s THE LOST MAN and S. A. Chakraborty’s THE KINGDOM OF COPPER. And based on the enjoyment of reading THE CTY OF BRASS, I went ahead and bought THE BLOODPRINT by Ausma Zehanat Khan, which I started reading last night. 100 pages in and I am absolutely loving the story telling and characters. The set-up has a number of similarities to THE CITY OF BRASS, but is in and of itself a unique story, and oh how it’s sucked me in.

Like Chakraborty, Khan’s writing is fluid, descriptive (where necessary) and full of intrigue. I’m just getting a hint of all the players, and where this one might go—knowing this is book one in a trilogy—and I’m already rooting for a couple of characters, and looking over my shoulder for them, trying to see what’s coming next: a huge storm me thinks!

And you, dear reader, what are you reading and what’s up next on your radar?

  1. I am reluctant to say what I will read next cause the likelihood of that happening somehow starts decreasing as soon as I announce it. I’ll chance it though given you won’t tell anyone.

I am planning on reading the final book in Arden’s series – Winter of the Witch. I am also planning on listening to Obama’s memoir Becoming. And in January, I can not wait to read Black’s Wicked King and Bartugo’s King of Scars. Both of those are highly anticipated reads for me…

But knowing myself, I will request some ARC’s and will get distracted…

    Happy reading!

    • Oh, I know how it goes to, all the best laid plans can go out the window the minute I see a nice, new shiny cover that distracts me, and pow, the reading list is dust! But, in good faith, I am gong to try (again) to stick to a small pile of books I’m setting aside to read.

But, as usual, we’ll see what happens and, of course, what I get for Christmas. I do like getting presents, don’t you? 😀

Happy reading to you too, Vera!

  2. I can’t wait for the new Jane Harper book!
Till then, i’m just trying to finish off some books i already own 😀 I’m kinda in a mood for some thriller (how surprising, haha) at the moment. Something dark and gritty potentially.

    • I have at least four anticipated books coming out early next year that I’m drooling over. But yeah, in the meantime, and over the holidays I really am going to try make a dent in the TBR by breaking it down into smaller piles, which I see as least accusatory, right?

And I broke down and order more books … wuss!

  3. It’s great when you find someone who has the same taste in books and you know their recs will be spot on! I’m reading The Hunting Party now, another locked-in novel, which is enjoyable and then I have two reads for blog tours in January that I really have to start. The next one is March or April then so once these finished I can choose what I want

    • Oh, indeed, it’s invaluable to know people whose reviews you can trust, and be objective. And when they say something’s good, or so-so, you take them at their word. Thankfully, I’m lucky enough to be in a circle of people who do great reviews, so I’m taking note. Of course, it now means I have a lot more books on my wish list than ever before. Ha! Ha!

Can’t wait to hear what you think of The Hunting Party.
