Yes, I know, Joe’s meme is usually done on a Friday, but hey, I only started reading THE LIAR, by Steve Cavanagh, yesterday. So this is now officially First Impressions Monday.
IT TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE…
WHO IS DEADLIER …
Leonard Howell’s worst nightmare has come true: his daughter Caroline has been kidnapped. Not content with relying on the cops, Howell calls the only man he trusts to get her back.
… THE MAN WHO KNOWS THE TRUTH …
Eddie Flynn knows what it’s like to lose a daughter and vows to bring Caroline home safe. Once a con artist, now a hotshot criminal attorney, Flynn is no stranger to the shady New York underworld.
… OR THE ONE WHO BELIEVES A LIE?
However, as he steps back into his old life, Flynn realizes that the rules of game have changed – and that he is being played. But who is pulling the strings? And is anyone in this twisted case telling the truth…?
This is Steve Cavanagh’s third book in the highly enjoyable Eddie Flynn series, which sees Eddie taking on a client who he knows is going to be trouble, and yet, because the man’s daughter has been kidnapped, can’t help himself. Because Eddie Flynn has been through the meat grinder himself, in THE DEFENCE, where his daughter, Amy, is kidnapped by the Russian mob.
There are a great many similarities between the two stories. And a few recurring characters too, like Agents Washington and Harper (one of my fav secondary characters) and Judge Harry Ford—who’s got his own set of problems to deal with.
So far, this one is shaping up to be another fantastic roller coaster ride, with plenty of twists and turns, mis-directs and slight-of-hand that I so love about Cavanagh’s plotting.
This is criminally good reading!
