Sunshine Blogger

The wonderful Vera over at, Unfiltered Tales, tagged me for the Sunshine Blogger Award. For those of you who haven’t stopped by her blog, she writes a great review, loves all things psychological, is a rock climber who dislikes heights (and don’t we all) and is an all-round neat person to connect with. Show her some love!

The rules are:

• Thank the blogger who nominated you by linking to their blog
• Answer their questions
• Nominate a bunch of people you like!

What’s the best book you’ve ever read?

That’s easy, I’ve mentioned it before, Serpent’s Reach by C.J. Cherryh. It really is a very simple adventure story that, at the time, when I read it, had quite the effect on me. And I know reread it on a regular basis.

What’s the worst book you ever read?

Well, recently, that would have to be THE CUBAN AFFAIR, which is several hours of my life I will never get back, ever! Slow, boring, predictable, and just all around bad writing made this one an absolute dud!

If you could be a fictional character, who would you be?

I think anyone who knows me, knows I had a passion for Alice and the Mad Hatter, growing up, so either of those characters would be just about right for me.

What’s your biggest pet peeve?

What, other than stupid people? Oh dear, in books, fake jeopardy. It drives me insane that authors, to lazy to do due diligence, constantly put characters in situations you know are dumb, or which they miraculously escape from, or suddenly find the key to the locked cellar they’re in … and the like. I think you get the picture.

What’s your hobby?

What, only one? Who only has one hobby? Reading, writing, gardening, cooking, travelling to foreign places, it’s a BIG list!

What’s your dream job?

Again with the one? I’ve had several dream jobs at different times in my life, that I’ve been lucky enough to do, from working in print & publishing, to graphic design and yes, I was an Air Traffic Controller too. Once!

Who is your favourite author?

Naah, can’t do just one: Robert A. Heinlein, C.J. Cherryh, Ursula K. Le Guin, Joan D. Vinge, Laurie King …

What’s your favourite genre?

At the moment, a mix of crime fiction and SF.

How was your day, today, on a scale of 10?

Easy: 8!

What got you into reading?

Mostly my father, who was a voracious reader. But it was also a family pastime, in that we got taken (en-masse) to the library every week. And, at one point in my life, I didn’t just have one library card — I had several.

What is your all-time favourite TV show?

Again, am I allowed only ONE? There have been a ton over the years, but I’ll go with Gilmore Girls, The Expanse and Madam Secretary.

PHEW! Okay, I think that’s enough to let you know a little bit more about me, or, at the very least, what I like to read.

Okay, if you are reading this and haven’t been tagged elsewhere, consider yourself tagged. And if you don’t want to answer all the same questions, then just pick one and tell us more about yourself!

  1. I think i got into reading because of my parents too. They were always reading as far as i remember.
When i was too little and didn’t know how to read, my mum always read for me. But she was often tired and fell asleep in the middle of the stories, so i took it upon myself to learn as soon as i could 😀
My grandmas always made fun of me cuz i always asked for books for my birthday. But they got me the books anyway.

    • Oh you too, like Vera and myself. I think the best parents are the ones who get their kids reading before they attend school. And it’s usually because of their love of books and reading.

Ha! Ha! Yeah, your mum falling asleep is great motivation to learn how to read.

As an aunt, even now, I give books as pressies! 😀

Great answers Alex! Yay to a fellow Gilmore Girls fan.

I love Alice and can not believe I forgot to mention her in my picks! Great choice.

And thanks for those kind words, I’m really happy you got to do this post and we can get to know you a bit more. ❤️

    • Thanks, Vera. It was fun to do and, as you say, it’s a lovely way to get to know everyone around the Blog-O-Sphere.

Oh, and we’re still big Gilmore Girls fans in this household! 😉

Here’s to being Alice, always curious.
