Chakraborty Publisher: Harper Voyager ISBN: 9780062870162 Genre: Fantasy BACK COVER BLURB Nahri’s life changed forever the moment she accidentally summoned Dara, a formidable, mysterious djinn, during one of her schemes. Whisked from her home in Cairo, she was thrust into the dazzling royal court of Daevabad and quickly discovered she would need all her grifter instincts to survive there. Now, with Daevabad entrenched in the dark aftermath of the battle that saw Dara slain at Prince Ali’s hand, Nahri must forge a new path for herself, without the protection of the guardian who stole her heart or the counsel of the prince she considered a friend. But even as she embraces her heritage and the power it holds, she knows she’s been trapped in a gilded cage, watched by a king who rules from the throne that once belonged to her family and one misstep will doom her tribe. The Start of Fantasy February

Yeah, today is the first day of my Fantasy February read and I’m sure you’re all wondering what book I’m going to kick off my fantastical journey with. It was a toss up between two books for, oh, about five minutes and then I shook my head and new exactly which book was up first. Well, of course it has to be, THE KINGDOM OF COPPER! I’ve been wanting to read this one from the minute I finished reading The City Of Brass … like every other fan on the planet. And now? I can spend the next 3 days sucking up every last damn word and finally find out what’s been happening with Nahri, Ali, and Dara. Chakraborty left us on a cliffhanger of an ending in book one and, given this is a trilogy, I’m expecting another at the end of this one too. Which is, in part, why I’ve also been avoiding social media and any number of websites so I wouldn’t read a tweet, review, or spoiler. But, oh boy can …

Top 5 Tuesday: 5 Badass Females

Sometimes it’s hard, really hard, to choose just 5 of something. Like today’s Top 5 Tuesday topic of Bad Ass Females courtesy of Shanah over at Bionic Book Worm. Are you kidding me, I can only choose FIVE? But. But. There. Are. So. Many! Well, I’m almost sure no one is going to have heard of some of these female characters, but to me, they know how to kick butt with the best of them! #1. BRIGID QUINN by Becky Masterman — A no-nonsense ex-FBI agent turned PI who hasn’t quite retired from rubbing everyone up the wrong way, getting into peoples faces, and generally getting herself into trouble while solving the crime. Brigid, who is 60, is gritty, determined, and will not rest till justice is served. Check out: Rage Against The Dying Fear The Darkness A Twist of the Knife #2. LORI ANDERSON by Steph Broadribb — Lori Anderson is as tough as they come, managing to keep her career as a fearless Florida bounty hunter separate from her role as single mother …

My Book Haul

I’m really proud of how many books I’ve read this month, and how quickly I’ve managed to shrink my TBR pile as a result. So proud, I decided yesterday was a Book Buying Day! And why not. I still had two Christmas gift cards I hadn’t used, and what better way to use them, of course, than buying more books! Look at my haul! Two more fantasy books for Fantasy February, a couple for Mystery March, and one for All-sorts April. What do you think? Quite the nice haul, I would say.
