Another book arrived yesterday, in the post, that I had forgotten I had ordered. The weird smelling Indigo/Chapters packaging was, itself, wrapped in a Post Canada clear plastic bag. Apparently there had been a mishap somewhere at a sorting office that had resulted in the package being damaged … I opened the plastic wrapper and was nearly knocked unconscious by the smell. The cardboard was damp and sticky and the smell, we decided, was overpoweringly one of perfume.
Even now, as I write this, with Finding Nouf sat next to me waiting to be logged into my book inventory, I can smell the sweet, sickly scent. I think I’m going to have to fumigate both the book and the office after posting this—or risk being sick!
Well, I won’t forget this novel anytime soon. It’s liable to stink out the entire apartment.
