Top Ten Tuesday: Characters Whose Jobs I Wish I Had

Oh boy, today’s Top Ten Tuesday from Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl, is Character Whose Jobs I Wish I Had. And let me tell you, there are quite a few jobs, I am sure you will all agree, we all wish we could do. How about taking on the challenge of one of these jobs:

  • PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR — like Sarah Paretsky’s long suffering character, V.I. Warshawski or Emma Viskic’s deaf character, Caleb Zelic. And Vaseem Khan’s MC, Insp. Ashwin Chopra (Rtd.).
  • FBI AGENT — like Brigid Quinn in Becky Masterman’s series featuring a tough as nails 60+ MC.
  • RAILROAD POLICE SPECIAL AGENT — like the ex-army vet, Sydney Rose Parnell, in Barbara Nickless’s brilliant series of books.
  • FORENSIC ANTHROPOLOGIST — like Temperance Brennan in Kathy Reich’s long running series, that everyone knows as Bones from the TV series.
  • PROFESSOR OF SYMBOLOGY — like Dan Brown’s infamous prof, Robert Langdon, he of The Da Vinci Code fame.
  • BOUNTY HUNTER — like the tenacious and tough Lori Anderson from Steph Broadribb’s books.
  • LAWYER — like hotshot Eddie Flynn from Steve Cavanagh’s fantastic legal thriller series.
  • POLICE INVESTIGATOR — like the melancholy Arkady Renko, one of my fav characters from Martin Cruz Smith’s fab series of books.
  • MASTER SLEUTH — like Alan Bradley’s 11 year-old super sleuth, Flavia de Luce, who’s an utter delight.
  • SPY — like any character in a thrillingly-good John Le Carre or Bernard Samson from the superb Len Deighton series of books.

And you, what career or jobs would you grab the chance at doing, if only in your dream landscape?

Yeah, it’s one of those jobs that’s more like a hobby than anything, and sounds fun, unlike being constantly chased everywhere as in the Dan Brown books! 😉

I didn’t realize until after I read the list that your blog is called Alex in Murderland. All the jobs you list make total sense now, very on brand! lol. Excellent list!

Ha! Ha! I thought it would be fun to choose jobs in keeping with my crime fiction addiction, Felicia. I obviously nailed it! 😉

All big and interesting jobs here Alexandra!

Some really fun, interesting, and gritty jobs, Sophie. And while they all sound intriguing, I’m not sure I would, in fact, tackle any of them in reality. 😀

I love the Tempe Brennan books and her job does sound fascinating! Science has never been my subject, though, so I wouldn’t even make it through the 101 classes required for that one. Thank goodness there are science smarties out there who do these kinds of jobs in real life. I do love reading about them 🙂

    Happy TTT!

Oh, you and I both then, Susan. It’s one thing to dream of doing these kinds of jobs, quite another when it comes to reality. And it is, as they say, best left to the experts. 😀

Oh, I definitely wanted to be a professor of symbology too for a while there after reading The Da Vinci Code 🙂

    • Alex

Oh, you too? I was absolutely fascinated with the idea someone could be a professor of symbology. I love the idea. 😀
