Movie Madness

There was a time, way back when, I use to go to the cinema at least twice a week. And yes, sometimes more. But that was back when it was relatively cheap to go see a movie. Unlike today, where prices are prohibitive after transport, snacks, and drinks. You need a small mortgage to go see the latest so-called blockbuster. And, since the plague arrived, I haven’t been to the cinema since. I just don’t feel the need to sit in a darkened space with several hundred coughing snacking noisy people.

So you could say I’m something of a streamer in that I watch movies on the streaming platforms. I use to buy quite a few DVDs and, yes, back in the day, VHS video tapes. But given the rise in cost of those small pleasures, I’m usually found at the cheap basket in a BIG box store rummaging for a bargain … or not!

To be honest, there are not that many movies that I’ve wanted to watch, in the last several years, and have either waited for them to come to the small screen, or bought the fancy DVD version when released. And I’ve only really wanted to see DUNE 2 on the BIG screen recently because, well, the obvious. It’s a visual spectacular that just doesn’t translate to the small screen as well.

My answer is probably to invest in a home theatre set up but, as I live in a rented apartment, that seems very unlikely. So it looks like I will become the consummate TV viewer from here in out and maybe, she says longingly, just buy a bigger TV.
