I just read Lou Plummer’s 15 Books With The Most Impact, and started thinking about what books had an impact on me (if any) when growing up, and as an adult. I have to say, they are all probably obscure books to the general reader, and it’s not for the most obvious of reasons that each made my list. But each book offered up a new way of looking at not only life, but myself.

1. Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein
2. Serpent’s Reach by C. J. Cherryh
3. Dune by Frank Herbert
4. City of Illusions by Ursula K. Le Guin
5. A Town Like Alice by Nevil Shute
6. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
7. War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells
8. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

There’s probably a few others I’ve forgotten to add to this list, but these are the books that jumped to mind. I have to say, Ursula K. LeGuin’s writing left its mark on me in many subtle ways. The topics and subjects she tackled through her writing always touched something inside of me.
