Top Ten Tuesday: One Word Reviews

Bonjour tout la monde, today’s Top Ten Tuesday from Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl is One Word Reviews of The Last 10 Books Read (nominated by Susan from over at Bloggin’ ‘Bout Books).

Well, that certainly makes life easy when we’re only being asked for one-word reviews. Much better than 10 reviews or even, mini reviews. So, here goes, my last 10 reads:

  • THE CARTOGRAPHERS by Peng Shepherd — Frustrating (Meandering?)
  • ALL THE QUEEN’S MEN by SJ Bennett — Enjoyable
  • THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB by Richard Osman — Slow
  • A BAD DAY FOR SUNSHINE by Darynda Jones — Annoying
  • THE BONE CODE by Kathy Reichs — Contrived
  • IN THE DARK SPACES by Cally Black — Riviting
  • FLIGHT OF THE FANTAIL by Steph Matuku — Twisted
  • COLONYSIDE by Michael Mammay — Repetitive
  • STATE OF TERROR by Hilary Clinton — Absorbing
  • BONE CANYON by Lee Goldberg — Clever

Okay, so that wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be, trying to encapsulate an entire read down into a single word. Case in point, I expected The Cartographers to take a different tack than it actually took, and it kind of meandered all over the place and then, never quite explain itself. So that, in the end, I was left frustrated more than anything. But then again, each to their own, what frustrated me others might enjoy.

So tell me, what books did you enjoy or get frustrated by recently?

    1. They’re the worst kind I think, Susan, as you are left feeling so frustrated by the end. Just as well the others were mostly decent reads.

    1. Half the books read were really enjoyable reads, the other half? Not so great. But at least I know what authors to avoid i the future, right? 😀

    1. Yeah, it was harder than I thought it would be. I just hope the one word helps explain how I felt about the reads.

    1. I wasn’t as captivated as I am usually, and so, it took over a week to read. So yes, it felt slow, almost plodding. That isn’t to say I didn’t like certain aspects, like some of the character work.
